Live Oak Canyon Road Interchange
This project, in the City of Yucaipi, began in September 2007 and was completed in May 2009. It involved reconstructing the interchange road and replacing the two-lane bridge with a five-lane bridge. Two ramps were widened and traffic signals were installed.
Santa Monica Freeway
Following the Northbridge earthquake in 1994, HLE was part of the construction team that was in charge of repairs to the Santa Monica Freeway. Governor Pete Wilson said about the project, “This freeway, with its broken bridges, broken connectors, became one of the most visible signs of the devastation brought upon Los Angeles…its rebuilding and reopening will serve as one of the symbols of the energy of this great community.” Since the damage caused huge delays to around 341,000 commuters, the project was rushed and was completed 74 days ahead of schedule.
LAX Airfield Improvements
This project involved demolishing, relocating and reconstructing LAX’s south airfield in order to improve safety and reduce the number and severity of runway incursions. It began in July 2006 and was completed in June 2008. In addition to the rebuilding, all navigational aids were relocated and replaced, along with utilities, lighting, signage, grading and drainage.
State Street Bridge Construction
Construction on this project began in May 2007 and was completed in early 2009. A bridge was constructed over the BNSF railroad tracks in San Bernardino with the goal of reducing traffic congestion due to train delays. The new bridge accommodates two lanes of traffic, a sidewalk and bicycle lane in each direction and a center turn lane.
