Van Buren Bridge Project Coming to a Close
HLE is working on a bridge rebuilding project that is expected to be completed by Winter 2013. The Van Buren bridge, originally built in 1939 … needed to be expanded to accommodate the estimated 73,700 vehicles per day that 2025 is expected to bring. Therefore, the bridge is being widened to have three traffic lanes in each direction, concrete barriers are being added to separate the pedestrian sidewalks from the road, and the outside shoulders are being widened to add a bike lane in the future.
